Product Overview

The Messenger SMB-CAN is a packaged system designed to provide a rugged, outdoor monitoring system for equipment with CANbus, J1939 and/or Modbus connections – pumps, generators, engines. Designed to be installed in minutes and provide unparalleled remote access to your equipment. The SMB-CAN reports to Antx’ RemoteIQ web-based system for mobile and PC access, providing a complete end-to-end telematics solution.

The SMB-CAN consists of a Messenger cellular/GPS telemetry unit, solar charger, battery, weather-tight box and M12 panel mount connections for:

  • Digital on/off conditions
  • Pulsing flowmeters
  • 4-20ma input (level, pressure, flow, etc)
  • Modbus RTU (flowmeters, water quality, PLCs, etc.)
  • CANbus
  • Solar panel or DC input
  • External cell antenna

The box has rare-earth magnets on the bottom for quick and solid mounting to metal surfaces. The cellular connection is via worldwide available LTE.

SMB-CAN provides remote control of the connected equipment, either via the CANbus or Modbus connection. On pumps, the SMB-CAN and Centurion web-application allow the user to:

  • View all engine and pump data in tabular and chart formats
  • Start and stop pumps
  • Ramp remote engines up and down
  • Perform emergency stops, view translated engine diagnostics
  • View parameters as gauges, tanks and other graphics
Typical applications include
  • Diesel-driven pumps with electronic controls
  • Controllers supported via CAN include: LOFA, Controls Inc
  • Controllers supported via Modbus include: Murphy, Murcal
  • Diesel-driven generators with electronic controls
  • Controllers supported via Modbus include: DynaGen, DeepSea, ComAp, Generac, Basler, Kohler
  • For pump monitoring and control, the SMB-CAN has a CANbus connection to communicate directly with the diesel pump controller. The desktop, tablet or smartphone-based Centurion screens allow the user to see monitored conditions, turn the pump on or off and adjust the running RPM on most pumps. The typical monitored and computed conditions include:
    • RPM

    • Engine Diagnostics
    • Battery Voltage
    • Amber Warning Condition
    • Red Shutdown Condition
  • For pressure measurement, the SMB is equipped with a 4-20ma analog input that typically is used with a pressure sensor placed in the suction or discharge line.
  • For pulsing flow meters, a digital/pulsing input is provided to convert pulses into flow rate, daily flow volume and total job volume.
  • For Modbus flow meters, forward flow and total flow volume are monitored and reported.
